Graham and Ruby DeLaet Foundation Team Up with The Children’s Wish Foundation of Nova Scotia as Official Charitable Partner of the Nova Scotia Open

Volunteer and Caddie Registration is Now Open

Halifax, Nova Scotia – March 16, 2015 – SportBox Entertainment Group and the PGA TOUR announced today that the Graham and Ruby DeLaet Foundation will become the official charitable partner of 2015 Nova Scotia Open, with The Children’s Wish Foundation – Nova Scotia Chapter as the local charitable partner and beneficiary.

For five consecutive days of world-class golf, the Nova Scotia Open, featuring the RBC Canada Cup will see PGA TOUR and Web.com Tour stars come to Halifax. As the official charity partner of the Nova Scotia Open, the power of the Graham and Ruby DeLaet Foundation will be harnessed to drive fundraising and charitable support. Graham and Ruby launched the Foundation in 2014 with a central focus to support children’s health, as well as supporting the development of junior golfers at all levels of the game. DeLaet will join Mike Weir and David Hearn as part of Team Canada in the RBC Canada Cup.

“When Graham and I started the Graham and Ruby DeLaet Foundation we wanted to make a difference in the lives of children,” said Ruby. “Golf is a great platform to grow awareness of children’s health and help pave the way for children to build life skills. Through the Nova Scotia Open, we are excited to support charitable efforts in Halifax and Atlantic Canada.” Team Canada’s Graham DeLaet also commented on returning to Halifax for the RBC Canada Cup “Mike, David and I had a great experience last year and the fans were incredible. I look forward to returning this summer to bring the title back home.”

The Nova Scotia Open will work with the Graham and Ruby DeLaet Foundation and The Children’s Wish Foundation to build and execute initiatives around the event, with all charitable funds raised directed toward the Nova Scotian chapter of The Children’s Wish Foundation to help grant more wishes to Nova Scotian children in need. One of many initiatives, all proceeds from the sale of Nova Scotia Open daily passes will be directed toward The Children’s Wish Foundation. The event’s charitable initiatives will continue to contribute to the substantial impact of the PGA TOUR’s charitable platform, which has over $2 billion in all-time charitable giving.

Each year, thousands of Canadian children between the ages of 3 - 17 are diagnosed with a life threatening illness. After 30 years, and over 22,000 wishes, The Children’s Wish Foundation of Canada has worked in communities across the country to provide children with life threatening illnesses the opportunity to realize their most heartfelt wish. To date, the Nova Scotia chapter of the Children’s Wish Foundation has granted 959 wishes, with 56 more wishes still planned to be enjoyed.

“The Children’s Wish Foundation is honoured to be selected as the official local charitable partner for this prestigious event.  We are looking forward to supporting an outstanding Nova Scotia Open and to continuing to raise awareness for Children’s Wish, increasing fundraising to grant wishes that help to transform the life of a child diagnosed with a life-threatening illness, and further positively impacting the Nova Scotia community, through this partnership.” said Chris Kotsopoulos, CEO of The Children’s Wish Foundation.

Recently, the Nova Scotia Open in partnership with the Graham and Ruby DeLaet Foundation, Give Kids the World, The Children’s Wish Foundation and PGA TOUR helped grant six-year-old Christian Backhouse’s wish of meeting a PGA TOUR player. Christian realized his wish when he attended the 2015 The Honda Classic in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, where he had an unforgettable day behind-the-scenes at a PGA TOUR event. As part of the experience, Christian had his own place and nameplate on the driving range, where he received a one-on-one lesson from Web.com Tour alumni Jonas Blixt. Christian also toured Golf Channel’s production truck, ate with PGA TOUR players and played video games in the Puma truck. Thanks to Cobra Puma Golf, Christian looked like a tour professional for the day from head-to-toe. Christian was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia in June 2011 when he was just three-years-old and after undergoing chemotherapy treatment he is now cancer free.

Event organizers also announced that Volunteer and Caddie registration is now open through Nova ScotiaOpen.com. Whether walking inside the ropes with a Web.com Tour player, attending the driving range or assisting with Golf Channel production, volunteers gain an inside look into the Nova Scotia Open.

Several Web.com Tour players will seek the support of a local caddie during the Nova Scotia Open. A truly unique experience, caddies team up with a Web.com Tour player from Monday, June 29 to Sunday, July 5. In 2014, Roger Sloan partnered with Will Walsh of Halifax, in hopes of receiving local knowledge on the tricky greens at Ashburn Golf Club – New Course. Sloan and Walsh made a formidable team as Sloan went on to win the Nova Scotia Open.

“I was fortunate to team up with Will last year where we got to know one another and at the end of the week shared an experience we will never forget,” said Sloan. Walsh added, “It was a special week. I can’t wait to do it again.”

The Nova Scotia Open will take place from Thursday, July 2 to Sunday, July 5 featuring a 156-man field vying for a $650,000 purse and a season long chance to earn one of 50 available PGA TOUR cards next season. Following the Nova Scotia Open on July 6, the RBC Canada Cup will see Team Canada’s Graham DeLaet, Mike Weir and David Hearn face-off against Team World’s Fred Couples and two to-be-named PGA TOUR stars in a battle for international bragging rights. Both Team Canada and Team World will be joined by a Web.com Tour star of the Nova Scotia Open. The Nova Scotia Open and RBC Canada Cup will take place at Ashburn Golf Club – New Course.

Graham and Ruby DeLaet Foundation

Founded in 2014, the Graham and Ruby DeLaet Foundation’s central focus is on improving the health and wellness of children, as well supporting the development of junior golfers at all stages. The Foundation is an extension of Graham and Ruby’s previous charitable efforts, which have provided charitable contributions to Golf Saskatchewan and the Weyburn & District Hospital Foundation. The Graham and Ruby DeLaet Foundation’s first initiative, Graham Slam, was held July 8-9, 2014 at Saskatoon’s Riverside Country Club, and raise $375,000 for the Children’s Hospital Foundation of Saskatchewan.

Children’s Wish Foundation of Canada

Each year, thousands of Canadian children between the ages of 3 - 17 are diagnosed with a life threatening illness.  Since 1984, The Children’s Wish Foundation of Canada has worked tirelessly to grant exceptional wishes to over 21,000 children and their families. This year, the Foundation expects to grant over 1,000 new wishes and is proud to have never refused a wish to an eligible child, and with the help of volunteers and generous donors, is able to grant nearly three wishes every day.  Each wish is an individual adventure, carefully structured to meet the needs of a particular child and family. The Foundation is a national charity with chapters in every province and territory. Visit www.childrenswish.ca for more information.

Fred Couples to Headline International Golf Stars Coming to Halifax this Summer

The Web.com Tour’s Nova Scotia Open featuring the RBC Canada Cup Returns in 2015; Tickets are Now On Sale

Halifax, Nova Scotia – February 24, 2015 – SportBox Entertainment Group and PGA TOUR announced today that PGA TOUR player and World Golf Hall of Fame member Fred Couples will headline the group of international golf stars headed to Halifax, Nova Scotia this summer. Couples will look to carry the momentum of Team World’s winning ways in the RBC Canada Cup, the culminating event to the Web.com Tour’s Nova Scotia Open tournament. Canadian legends and Team RBC members Mike Weir, Graham DeLaet and David Hearn will return as Team Canada to battle Team World’s Couples and two to-be-named PGA TOUR stars.

Kicking off the summer, the Nova Scotia Open returns to Ashburn Golf Club – New Course from July 2 – 5. One of 25 stops on the Web.com Tour, the Nova Scotia Open features a field of 156 international golf stars vying for a $650,000 purse and a season long chance to earn one of 50 available PGA TOUR cards next season. The event will also feature an 18-hole pro-am on Tuesday, June 30.

The RBC Canada Cup will take place on Monday, July 6, the day after the Nova Scotia Open concludes in a Team Canada vs. Team World battle for international bragging rights over 18 holes. With Weir, DeLaet and Hearn confirmed for Team Canada, and all-star Fred Couples headlining Team World, fans will have the opportunity to see some of golf’s biggest legends. Both Team Canada and Team World will be joined by a top player from the Web.com Tour’s Nova Scotia Open, rounding out a team of four per side. Previewing the matches, fans are welcome to get an up-close and personal look at the players during the morning 9-hole RBC Canada Cup Pro-Am.

"We're thrilled to once again host this exciting event, and to be able to bring PGA TOUR and Web.com Tour level excitement to golf fans in Atlantic Canada,” said Roger Howard, RBC Regional President, Atlantic provinces. “With three of our Team RBC ambassadors - Mike Weir, Graham DeLaet and David Hearn – participating once again, the RBC Canada Cup and the Nova Scotia Open will be a treat for supporters of Canadian golf.”

A member of the PGA TOUR for the past 33 years, The Masters and two-time THE PLAYERS Champion has recorded 15 PGA TOUR victories, is a two-time PGA TOUR Player of the Year, Vardon Trophy Recipient, five-time Ryder Cup player and five-time Presidents Cup Team USA player. After a long and successful career on the PGA TOUR, Couples also found success when he joined the Champions Tour in 2010, notching eleven victories, including two major championships.

“I am excited to be part of the RBC Canada Cup and look forward to visiting Halifax this summer,” said Couples. “I’m sure Canadian fans will cheer loudly for Team Canada and I look forward to playing in the international atmosphere as part of Team World. I anticipate a great competition and exciting experience for fans.”

The only Web.com Tour event on Canadian soil, the Nova Scotia Open serves as a homecoming for several Canadians. Last year, 20 Canadians played in the 156-man field, including Nova Scotia Open champion Roger Sloan. After Saturday’s third round play was suspended due to weather, players took to the course for 36 holes on Sunday. Down the home stretch, Sloan needed a par on the 72nd hole to force a playoff with Derek Fathauer. Sloan would force a playoff and eventually edge out Fathauer on the first playoff hole. As Sloan picked the ball out of the hole, thousands of fans proudly sang ‘O Canada’ for the homegrown champion. The Nova Scotia Open helped pave the way for 15 players, including Sloan, to secure a 2014-2015 PGA TOUR card.

“I was beyond thrilled to win my first Web.com Tour event in Halifax, at the Nova Scotia Open, last year,” said Sloan. “Halifax is where my Canadian heritage began many years ago when my great grandfather emigrated from Holland through Pier 21. With the win, it is now also the place where my PGA TOUR career started. Halifax and the province of Nova Scotia will always have a special place in my heart both on and off the golf course.”

As a community event, the Nova Scotia Open is infused with local culture, cuisine and musical traditions.  “Last year’s tournament at Ashburn Golf Club – New Course was the highlight of the golf season in Halifax, showcasing our beautiful city to golf fans from around the world,” said Mayor Mike Savage. “This July’s Nova Scotia Open and RBC Canada Cup will build on that success and see our city cemented as an excellent golf and travel destination.”

Over 25,000 spectators attended the inaugural Nova Scotia Open and RBC Canada Cup. The event brought the host region an estimated $4 million in net economic activity along with 3.8 million viewers that tuned into Golf Channel’s four-day coverage of the Nova Scotia Open.

"Events attract many first-time visitors to Nova Scotia and, once here, those visitors travel more throughout the province," said Economic and Rural Development and Tourism Minister Michel Samson. "We’re excited to work with the Web.com Tour to build our sport tourism opportunities for the province. Sport tourism is Canada's fastest growing tourism sector, bringing $5.2 billion to our national economy. We're excited to continue to bring some of that business to Nova Scotia.”

Once again, all four rounds of the Nova Scotia Open will be televised on the Golf Channel, reaching 81 million households in the United States and is made available to 192 countries and a potential 93 million international households via broadcast partners. The event will also receive exposure within the weekend’s coverage of the PGA TOUR and Champions Tour.

Returning partners for the Nova Scotia Open and RBC Canada Cup include, the Province of Nova Scotia, the City of Halifax, Atlantic Golf Organization, Royal Bank of Canada, Cobra Puma Golf, WestJet and NovaScotian Crystal. The event is also pleased to welcome new partners Steele Auto Group, Discount Rental Car, Tony’s Meats, Booster Juice, Palm Bay and Stolichnaya.

As the path to the PGA TOUR, the Web.com Tour has produced over 400 PGA TOUR wins, five FedExCup champions and 19 major champions. Approximately seventy-five percent of PGA TOUR players are Web.com Tour alumni.

Event organizers also announced that tickets are now on sale and can be purchased through Ticket Atlantic and at novascotiaopen.com. Tickets prices begin at $17.50 for the Nova Scotia Open and $110 for the RBC Canada Cup. All proceeds from Nova Scotia Open daily ticket sales will go directly to the official charity partner. All-event passes are also available.

Nova Scotia Open Nominated for Canadian Tourism PRESTIGE Awards – International Sport Event of the Year Award

In 2014, Halifax and the province of Nova Scotia were seeking a key property to act as a launch pad for their summer tourism initiatives while showcasing regional offerings including top culinary and musical attractions and destination hotspots. Leveraging the Web.com Tour to add an event on Canadian soil, SportBox created the opportunity to expand the spotlight surrounding the Nova Scotia Open beyond the golf course property and into the Atlantic Canada region, improving the impact and excitement surrounding the event experience.

Framing the tournament as a festival, SportBox conducted several community activations in the downtown core, leveraged the community involvement around Canada Day, and featured the RBC Canada Cup. The RBC Canada Cup drew PGA TOUR super stars Mike Weir, Graham DeLaet, and David Hearn to compete against Matt Kuchar, Gary Woodland, and Trevor Immelman in an 18 hole match play battle.

Throughout the week, over 25,000 spectators attend the festival, contributing to the generation of over an estimated $4 million in economic activity and a marketing campaign valued at over $400,000. With all four rounds covered on the Golf Channel, 81 million households were reached in the United States with coverage available to 192 countries worldwide. In the media, over 6 million impressions were generated.

As a result of the event's success, The Nova Scotia Open has been nominated for the Canadian Sport Tourism's (CSTA) PRESTIGE Awards - as 2014 INTERNATIONAL SPORT EVENT OF THE YEAR AWARD.

CSTA’S PRESTIGE Awards celebrate the people, places and events that make the Canadian sport tourism industry so dynamic.  These awards are presented annually in six categories to individuals, companies and organizations that have made outstanding contributions to the success of the sport tourism industry.

SportBox Team Member Roger Sloan Secures PGA TOUR Card for 2015 Season

Talented young professional to join strong contingent on the PGA TOUR, thanks to impressive performances on the Web.com Tour.

Golf fans north of the border can expect to see a little more red and white on the PGA TOUR during the 2015 season.

Roger Sloan of Merritt, BC officially punched his ticket to the PGA TOUR following the culmination of the Winco Foods Portland Open, the final regular-season event of the Web.com Tour’s 2014 season.

Sloan had a career year on the Web.com Tour, the official pathway to the PGA TOUR, clinching his card in a rather impressive fashion. He had consistent play throughout the year, which lead to four top-25 finishes and his first victory on the Web.com Tour resulting from a playoff at the inaugural Nova Scotia Open. Sloan finished 24th of the Web.com Tour’s “THE 25” top money list makers, clinching his PGA TOUR card for the 2015 season as well.

Since confirming his spot on the PGA TOUR, support for Sloan has poured in from around the golfing community. PGA TOUR stars Graham DeLaet, David Hearn and Mike Weir all took to Twitter to offer their congratulations and express excitement at having a new member join them on the PGA TOUR.

Before beginning his rookie season on the PGA TOUR, Sloan first will play in the Web.com Tour Finals, a four-event series that starts at the Hotel Fitness Championship and concludes with the Web.com Tour Championship at TPC Sawgrass. Sloan and the rest of The 25 finishers will be competing against each other for priority ranking. They will be joined by players ranked 26-75 on the Web.com Tour and 126-200 on the PGA TOUR, who are playing for an additional 25 cards that are available.

David Hearn Continues to Raise Funds and Support for Cause that Hits Close to Home

The 2014 David Hearn Golf Classic in support of the Alzheimer Society of Brant and Hamilton/Halton helps make a difference for individuals and families affected by dementia.

A day after helping lead the Canadian contingent at the PGA TOUR’s RBC Canadian Open in Montreal, Ontario’s David Hearn headed home to host his annual charity golf tournament at the Beverly Golf and Country Club – located just outside of Hearn’s Brantford hometown.

The David Hearn Golf Classic has grown annually since first being hosted by the golfer in 2012, and once again raised valuable funds and awareness in support of Alzheimer disease, with all proceeds from this year’s event being directed to the Alzheimer Society of Brant and Hamilton/Halton. Money raised will stay in the local community and will provide important education and support programs for individuals with dementia, their families and care partners.

Alzheimer’s is a cause close to Hearn’s heart as his family is one of the many in Canada that have been affected by the disease, and the David Hearn Golf Classic is part of his continual support for the organizations that are dedicated to providing help. This past week at the RBC Canadian Open, Hearn donned the Alzheimer Society’s ‘Forget Me Not’ symbol upon his shirt sleeve. The symbol represents memory loss, a key symptom of the disease. But Hearn made sure everyone would remember the organization he is passionate about by this strong display.

“Alzheimer’s disease is something that touches a lot of families” says Hearn. “I have a personal connection with this disease and have seen first-hand how it can impact a family. The services provided by the Alzheimer Society are essential for the families that struggle with the disease on a daily basis, and this event will help support the wonderful work they are doing in our community.”

Participants in the charity golf event were treated to a memorable day of golf alongside their homegrown PGA TOUR star, as well as a gourmet dinner and silent auction. Thanks to generous donations and the tireless work of organizers and volunteers, a significant amount was raised. These funds will help the Alzheimer Society of Brant and Hamilton/Halton as they work toward their vision of having people affected by dementia live full and dignified lives.

“As our population ages the demand for our services is increasing at an alarming rate” said Mary Burnett, CEO of the Alzheimer Society of Brant and Hamilton/Halton. “We hear on a regular basis that our services have made a world of difference in how our clients and their families are dealing with the disease. Thanks in large part to David and his long-standing commitment to the Alzheimer Society, we have been able to raise funds to help support the growth of these programs and services. I would like to say a sincere thank you to David for all his efforts.”

There is little rest for David as he begins an exciting but demanding stretch on the PGA TOUR. After a short break, David will begin preparations for the PGA Championship, the season’s fourth and final major championship in an elite field. The PGA TOUR’s FedExCup Playoffs follow shortly thereafter, getting underway with The Barclays, a tournament where David has enjoyed previous success with a very impressive T10 finish there in 2012.

GOLFest Nova Scotia a Huge Success

The Inaugral GOLFest Nova Scotia, featuring the RBC Canada Cup and the Web.com Tour's Nova Scotia Open praised for organization and success

From June 30 to July 6, Maritime golf fans were able to witness world class golf at Ashburn Golf Club – New Course at the inaugural GOLFest Nova Scotia. The week-long event featured two top-tier events including the RBC Canada Cup on Monday June 30th, where Team Canada golf stars Mike Weir, Graham DeLaet, David Hearn and Adam Hadwin took on Team World’s Matt Kuchar, Gary Woodland, Trevor Immelman and Manuel Villegas in a head to head battle for international bragging rights.

Then, from Thursday July 3 to Sunday July 6, the Web.com Tour’s only Canadian stop took place with the inaugural Nova Scotia Open, with all four rounds aired on The Golf Channel.

An estimated 30,000 spectators gathered on the grounds throughout the week to watch the PGA TOUR stars play the exhibition match, followed by the playoff of the year between Canadian Roger Sloan and American Derek Fathauer for the title of the Nova Scotia Open Champion.

However, GOLFest proved to be much more than a golf tournament. Throughout the week, GOLFest supported its charitable and funding partners with off-site events to raise money and awareness for each organization, and to put the city of Halifax and the province of Nova Scotia on the map as a world class golf and tourism destination.

On Canada Day, the GOLFest Island Green in support of the QEII Foundation took place in downtown Halifax on the waterfront, with the public being able to go up against one of the golf pros (Eric Banks, Adam Svensson and Joe Panzeri) for a donation towards the QEII Health Sciences Research Centre.

On July 2, professional golfers were also invited to partake in a player demonstration and autograph signing at Nova Scotian Crystal. While there, each player had the opportunity to try cutting a piece of crystal. The experience was significant in the fact that both the RBC Canada Cup and the Nova Scotia Open trophies were custom designed by Nova Scotia Crystal.

Along with other interactive events throughout the week, Web.com offered a free Small Business Summit on July 3 at The Westin Nova Scotian. Guest speakers included Premier Stephen McNeil, Halifax Mayor, Mike Savage and Web.com Vice President, Dorgam Hideib. As part of GOLFest, each individual who attended the summit received one complimentary ticket to the Nova Scotia Open tournament.

Overall, the first year of the event proved to be widely successful across all fronts and looks to be even better next year.

Roger Sloan Wins First Web.com Tour Victory at Inaugural Nova Scotia Open

Roger Sloan Victorious on Home Soil

Roger Sloan became the first ever winner of the Web.com Tour’s inaugural Nova Scotia Open held at Ashburn Golf Club – New Course on Sunday after playing a straight 36 holes and a playoff round.

Sloan closed with rounds of 71 and 70 to match Derek Fathauer at 11-under 273. Tied for the lead, Sloan and Fathauer entered into a sudden death match on the 18th hole.

After Sloan’s five-foot putt went in, winning him his first victory on the Web.com Tour, the fans  celebrated by patriotically singing the Canadian national anthem for the British Columbia native.

The win not only guarantees Sloan a top-25 finish on the Web.com Tour’s Money List, but also the chance at a PGA TOUR card for the 2015 season; something every professional golfer dreams about.

Saskatoon, Saskatchewan – June 9, 2014 – PGA TOUR star and Weyburn, SK native Graham DeLaet, along with his wife Ruby, announced today the launch of the Graham and Ruby DeLaet Foundation, as well as the Foundation’s first initiative, the ‘Graham Slam.’

The Graham and Ruby DeLaet Foundation’s central focus will be supporting children’s health, as well as supporting the development of junior golfers at all levels of the game.

Graham and Ruby DeLaet have a long-standing support of children’s health and junior golf in Saskatchewan. Since 2011, the Graham DeLaet Charity Golf Tournament has supported Saskatchewan-based organizations, such as Golf Saskatchewan and the Weyburn & District Hospital Foundation. The launch of the Graham and Ruby DeLaet Foundation will be the new umbrella brand that drives the DeLaet’s charitable efforts.

“I know how lucky I am to be playing on the PGA TOUR, and I would not be here without the support of everyone back home,” said Graham DeLaet. “It is important to Ruby and I that we do what we can to give back to those who need it the most. We hope that through this Foundation, we can continue to make a difference in the lives of children.”

“We wanted to ensure we always remember where Graham came from and the people that supported him through his journey,” said Ruby DeLaet. “It’s important that our Foundation represents Graham’s roots and keeps Canada and Saskatchewan close to his heart. Now is the right time in Graham’s career to launch a Foundation and give back.”

Graham and Ruby also announced the Foundation’s first initiative, the Graham Slam, to be held this July 8th and 9th at Saskatoon’s Riverside Country Club. The Graham Slam will combine entertainment, music and golf to provide a memorable charity event experience.

The Children’s Hospital Foundation of Saskatchewan is a provincial charity dedicated to raising funds for the enhancement of children’s healthcare, and the creation of the new Children’s Hospital of Saskatchewan. Saskatchewan is one of only two provinces in Canada that does not have a dedicated children’s hospital.

“The Children’s Hospital of Saskatchewan is thrilled to be the charity recipient of the first Graham Slam event. We congratulate Graham and Ruby DeLaet on the launch of their Foundation, and for thinking of the children and families of Saskatchewan through their contribution to the new Children’s Hospital of Saskatchewan. What a wonderful way to give back to the province where Graham was born and raised,” stated Brynn Boback-Lane, President and CEO of the Children’s Hospital Foundation of Saskatchewan.

The Mike Weir Foundation and QEII Foundation Team Up as Official Charitable Partners of GOLFest

FEED NOVA SCOTIA and Nova Scotia Sport Hall of Fame selected as secondary beneficiaries.

All charitable funds raised through GOLFest will remain in the local community.

Halifax, Nova Scotia – May 21, 2014 – SportBox Entertainment Group and the PGA TOUR announced today that The Mike Weir Foundation will become the official charity partner of 2014 GOLFest Nova Scotia, with QEII Foundation as the primary local charitable partner and beneficiary.

GOLFest Nova Scotia is a weeklong festival celebrating all things golf in Canada. As the official charity of GOLFest Nova Scotia, the power of The Mike Weir Foundation will be harnessed to drive fundraising and charitable support. Since inception in 2004 and through the support of generous sponsors and donors, The Mike Weir Foundation has raised over $7 million, with over $4 million of support being provided for children’s health care and related causes.

“When my wife Bricia and I started The Mike Weir Foundation our goal was to advance the physical, emotional and educational welfare of children in Canada. Golf is a great platform to build awareness for local and national charities. I look forward to supporting Halifax and the Atlantic Canada region through GOLFest charitable efforts, and to visiting and playing alongside some of the best PGA players in the world in the RBC Canada Cup,” said Mike Weir.

GOLFest and The Mike Weir Foundation will work with the festival’s primary beneficiary, the QEII Foundation, to build and execute initiatives locally. The QEII Foundation touches the lives of all Nova Scotians and inspires generosity to advance health care by working with a community of people who share a vision of better health, strengthening health care and improving the lives of Atlantic Canadians.

Last year, the QEII Foundation raised over $20-million to fund research, professional education, equipment, technology and community-based programs. These much needed funds support primary care such as treatment of chronic conditions, specialized care like cancer treatment, and the most advanced care such as organ transplantation.

“The QEII Foundation is proud to be GOLFest Nova Scotia's local charity of choice," said Bill Bean, President and CEO of the QEII Foundation. "This partnership will help further care and truly make a difference for the patients who visit the QEII for rehabilitative care from across Atlantic Canada."

In addition to the QEII Foundation, GOLFest will also support FEED NOVA SCOTIA and the Nova Scotia Sport Hall of Fame as secondary beneficiaries. GOLFest will work on specific initiatives with each charity that support their mission and campaigns.

FEED NOVA SCOTIA helps provide meals to those in need by collecting and distributing food to more than 150 member agency food banks and meal programs, while eliminating chronic hunger and poverty through research.

The Nova Scotia Sport Hall of Fame honours, promotes, and preserves the rich sport history of Nova Scotia. In addition to featuring a state-of-the-art sport museum in downtown Halifax, the Hall of Fame provides a province-wide education program that uses the inspirational stories of sport heroes to deliver important lifestyle messages to Nova Scotia youth.

“We are proud to partner with The Mike Weir Foundation and three outstanding local charities,” said Grant MacDonald, Director, GOLFest Nova Scotia. “Our goal with GOLFest is to leave a lasting impact in the community each year. We will be working with our charitable partners over the next several weeks to build engaging initiatives that raise funds in the lead up to and on-site at GOLFest Nova Scotia.”

All charitable funds raised through GOLFest will remain in the local community. GOLFest charitable initiatives will continue to contribute to the substantial impact of the PGA TOUR’s charitable platform. Earlier this year, the PGA TOUR announced that it had surpassed $2 billion in all-time charitable giving. This milestone was reached a mere eight years after the first $1 billion was reached in 2005.

GOLFest Nova Scotia will feature the RBC Canada Cup, the Web.com Tour’s Nova Scotia Open and the Junior Canada Cup. In 2014, GOLFest will be held at Ashburn Golf Club – New Course from Monday, June 30 to Sunday, July 6.

The Mike Weir Foundation

Since inception and through the support of our generous sponsors and donors we are proud to report that over $7 million has been raised for children’s wellness with over $4 million of support being provided for children’s health care and related causes. Beyond direct contributions, the Foundation also helps charities raise money through its Weir Golf Memorabilia program, which helps charities obtain auction items for fundraising purposes.

QEII Foundation
The QEII Health Sciences Centre Foundation is a non-profit charitable organization established to strengthen the QEII Health Sciences Centre’s ability to provide health care of the highest quality across Atlantic Canada. The Foundation raises funds for the QEII's equipment purchases, special projects and research initiatives. The QEII is the largest health care centre in Atlantic Canada, with over one million patient visits annually. Encompassing 10 buildings, more than 700 physicians, 7,000 staff and 1,200 volunteers, the QEII serves immediate and emergency care, as well as specialized care for patients in the Atlantic Provinces. In addition to providing the most advanced care available, the QEII is a leading research centre and training facility.

FEED NOVA SCOTIA

FEED NOVA SCOTIA exists to alleviate the effects of poverty on Nova Scotians. The charity’s core business is to help keep the shelves and refrigerators of more than 150 member agency food banks and meal programs across the province well stocked, through regular and reliable food deliveries. Last year, FEED NOVA SCOTIA distributed more than two million kilograms of food valued at over $12.5 million. The organization is also actively engaged in research and awareness activities that seek to eliminate chronic hunger and poverty. Through collecting and analyzing data, FEED NOVA SCOTIA provides an accurate picture of hunger in Nova Scotia and gives context to the historic and evolving need for food support. They also operate a 24-hour Helpline and a culinary training program called The Learning Kitchen, where individuals facing barriers to employment learn a variety of skills that equip them for a job in the culinary industry.

Nova Scotia Sport Hall of Fame

The Nova Scotia Sport Hall of Fame is a non-profit organization that promotes Nova Scotia sport history. The Hall of Fame facility in the Halifax Metro Centre provides free admission to over 75,000 visitors annually, showcasing an impressive range of exhibits including the ultimate Sidney Crosby exhibit and an exciting multi-sport simulator. The facility also provides research access to over 150 years of sport stories in the form of thousands of records, photographs, and artifacts. In addition to recognizing outstanding sport accomplishments at its annual Induction Awards Night, the Hall of Fame features sports heroes in its free education program, which is presented to hundreds of schools across Nova Scotia in order to inspire youth with messages of motivation, perseverance, and good lifestyle choices.

Matt Kuchar to Headline ‘Team World’ in Inaugural Canada Cup

Canada Cup to feature battle of Canada vs. the World as Weir, DeLaet and Hearn take on Kuchar and two to-be-named international PGA TOUR players in Halifax, Nova Scotia this coming June

Halifax, Nova Scotia – March 12, 2014 – Six-time PGA TOUR champion, two-time United States Ryder Cup member and two-time Presidents Cup member Matt Kuchar will team with two other PGA TOUR players and one Web.com Tour player to represent the World at the inaugural Canada Cup Match, to be held on Monday, June 30, 2014 in Halifax, Nova Scotia at Ashburn Golf Club - New Course.

The Canada Cup is part of GOLFest Nova Scotia, a week-long celebration of national pride and all things golf in Canada that will also feature a Web.com Tour event, the Nova Scotia Open, from June 29 to July 6.

Currently ranked 11th in the Official World Golf Ranking, Kuchar is a proven winner and experienced veteran on the PGA TOUR. Notably, he has won some of golf’s most prestigious tournaments, including the World Golf Championships – Accenture Match Play Championship and the Memorial Tournament in 2013, THE PLAYERS Championship in 2012 and The Barclays in 2010.

A fan favourite on the PGA TOUR, affectionately referred to as ‘Kooch’, Kuchar’s friendly, All-American personality draws in crowds around the world, where he is adored as one of the most relatable and likable players on Tour.

No stranger to team competitions, Kuchar has had great success in international match play events. Most recently, he represented the victorious United States team at the 2013 Presidents Cup in Dublin, Ohio, where he finished the week tied as the team’s second-leading individual scorer. Kuchar also represented the United States at the 2011 Presidents Cup and the 2012 and 2010 Ryder Cups, as well as the 2013 and 2011 Omega Mission Hills World Cup, where he teamed with Gary Woodland to defeat a strong field of international twosomes.

“I know that Canadians have tremendous pride and passion for their athletes, and I look forward to playing against my fellow PGA TOUR colleagues in that type of energetic environment. I am sure that the battle for the Canada Cup and international bragging rights will be a memorable and exciting experience for players and spectators alike,” said Kuchar.

Conducted by SportBox Entertainment Group, the Canada Cup is one of three GOLFest Nova Scotia properties held during the week. The Canada Cup will feature three Canadian PGA TOUR stars Mike Weir, Graham DeLaet and David Hearn as they compete in a fierce head-to-head battle against an international squadron of PGA TOUR players on ‘Team World,’ comprised of Matt Kuchar and two additional PGA TOUR players. Each Canada Cup team will be rounded out by a Web.com Tour player who will be selected closer to the Canada Cup. The day will begin in the morning with a 9-hole Canada Cup pro-am followed by the Canada Cup battle in the afternoon, which will consist of 9-hole singles matches and 9-hole team alternate shot matches.

“Growing up playing team sports and living in a hockey crazed country, I now miss the team aspect of sports as a golfer. Playing in the Presidents Cup last year as part of a team was an adrenaline rush. Mike, David and I are excited to represent Canada and look forward to welcoming Matt and the remaining international PGA TOUR players to compete on Canadian soil as we go head-to-head for the Canada Cup title,” said DeLaet.

Over the next two weeks, SportBox Entertainment Group will reveal the second and third PGA TOUR players who will join Kuchar as they represent Team World at the inaugural Canada Cup Match.

Following the Canada Cup, GOLFest Nova Scotia will continue with the Nova Scotia Open to take place from July 3 to July 6, 2014 at Ashburn Golf Club - New Course. As the only Canadian stop on the Web.com Tour in 2014, the Nova Scotia Open will feature a field of 156 international ‘next generation’ PGA TOUR stars vying for a $650,000 purse and a season long chance to earn a PGA TOUR card next season. Leading off the week on Sunday, June 29 the Junior Canada Cup, in association with the Canadian Junior Golf Association will feature twelve junior golfers as they compete in a head-to-head East vs. West battle for the Junior Canada Cup.
