"I've never been to Nova Scotia and think the week is going to be exciting to play in not only the Nova Scotia Open but also the RBC Canada Cup. The team aspect in professional golf is very unique and you don't get to see it every day. Playing alongside Mike, Graham and David will be fun and will be great for the fans."

Meanwhile Barnes, a Michigan native, has emerged as one to watch this year as his 2nd place finish at the Chile Classic has him sitting within striking distance of a PGA TOUR card just past the half way point of the Web.com Tour season.

Event organizers also announced the remaining exemptions into the Nova Scotia Open. Brian Campbell (Newport Beach, CA), Peter Campbell (Baddeck, NS), Alex Carpenter (Dallas, TX), Brandon Hagy (Westlake Village, CA), Cory Renfrew (Victoria, BC), Adam Svensson (Surrey, BC) and Eugene Wong (North Vancouver, BC) will join already announced Austin Connelly (Irving,TX) as players receiving exemption spots in the event.

Ted Brown (Calgary, AB), Taylor Pendrith (Richmond Hill, ON), Ryan Williams (Vancouver, BC) and Ryan Yip (Calgary, AB) will tee it up this week along with Campbell, Connelly, Fritsch, Renfew, Svensson and Wong.

A strong field has been assembled at Ashburn Golf Club – New Course for the Nova Scotia Open. Nine-time PGA TOUR winner Stuart Appleby joins Peter Malnati, currently in 2nd position on the Web.com Tour money list and Jamie Lovemark as notables who will be a part of the 156 player’s hoping to claim victory.

The Nova Scotia Open will take place from Thursday, July 2nd through to Sunday, July 5th at Ashburn Golf Club – New Course in Fall River, NS. Freedom 55 Financial teams up with TSN to launch Fantasy Golf Platform

London, Ontario – Freedom 55 Financial today announced a new initiative with TSN: TSN Fantasy Golf presented by Freedom 55 Financial.

TSN Fantasy Golf presented by Freedom 55 Financial lets fans build their own team of golfers and play for their chance to win more than $15,000 in prizes (for more information and to register, please visit TSN.ca/fantasygolf). The game will run during a select number of golf events over the remainder of 2015 and will be promoted by TSN across its digital and broadcast platforms.

“As a brand that focuses on providing Canadians with financial freedom for today and tomorrow, fantasy golf is our way to deliver an experience to Canadians that you might not expect from your financial organization,” said Mike Cunneen, Senior Vice-President, Freedom 55 Financial.

The strategy to integrate Freedom 55 Financial into fantasy golf was developed in late 2014 by sports marketing agency SportBox Entertainment Group. With a two-year history of sponsoring golf properties, Freedom 55 Financial retained SportBox Group to build their go-forward strategy, with a focus on introducing a new brand experience to Canadians.

Presenting sponsorship of TSN’s Fantasy Golf further builds on Freedom 55 Financial’s support of and commitment to golf in Canada. The company also supports Team Freedom, a group of young Canadian athletes that includes Albin Choi, Matt Hill, Taylor Pendrith, Mackenzie Hughes and Adam Svensson. The company is the title sponsor of the Freedom 55 Financial Championship in London, ON, the Mackenzie Tour – PGA TOUR Canada's flagship event, which sees five players graduate to the Web.com Tour each season. Freedom 55 Financial also supports grassroots development initiatives as National sponsor of the Canadian Junior Golf Association and the Freedom 55 Financial Clinics for Kids program, for which Team Freedom golfers serve as ambassadors.

Golf Canada Welcomes Graham DeLaet as Ambassador for Golf in Schools

Canada’s No. 1 ranked PGA TOUR player lends support to national junior golf initiative aimed at introducing golf to students through the Canadian school physical education curriculum

OAKVILLE, ON – Golf Canada is pleased to announce that Canadian PGA TOUR star Graham DeLaet has been named as an ambassador for the Golf in Schools program.

DeLaet, currently the top-ranked Canadian on the Official World Golf Ranking (#86), will appear in Golf in Schools promotional materials—including learning resources and videos in addition to hosting a Golf in Schools junior clinic during the fall to raise excitement in the sport as students head back to school. As part of his relationship with Golf in Schools, DeLaet will also raise money through his Foundation, the Graham and Ruby DeLaet Foundation, to adopt schools into the program in communities across Canada.

“When Ruby and I started our Foundation, we wanted to ensure that it supported golf at the grassroots level – and the Golf in Schools program is making a big contribution in bridging the gap. We believe that it is important to introduce golf to schools so that kids can start learning the sport early, seeing more kids with clubs in their hands, and ultimately growing the game of golf,” said DeLaet, a graduate of Golf Canada’s National Team program.

Currently offered in more than 2,400 elementary and close to 300 high schools across Canada, Golf in Schools provides children with a basic introduction to golf through the Canadian school physical education curriculum. The program features three curriculum levels – Grades 2– 5 and high school level along with the newly launched intermediate level for students in Grade 6–8.

Launched in 2009, the Golf in Schools program—which is endorsed by Physical Health and Education Canada (PHE Canada)—is conducted by Golf Canada in partnership with the PGA of Canada and the provincial golf associations. The Golf in Schools program consists of safety-approved golf equipment, along with a relevant teaching resource for teachers to deliver lesson plans to students.

New in 2015, Golf Canada partnered with the University of Ottawa to include a Life Skills component throughout all three levels of the program. The Life Skills element incorporates fundamental skills and values such as respect, perseverance, and honesty—all of which are fully integrated into the teacher-friendly learning resources.

“We are extremely proud to welcome Graham DeLaet as our Golf in Schools Ambassador,” said Jeff Thompson, Golf Canada’s Chief Sport Officer.  “Having Canada’s No. 1 ranked professional golfer extend his support and generosity to junior golf through his Foundation is outstanding. Graham is an incredibly talented golfer with a passion to give back to a game that’s given him so much.”

DeLaet’s support of the Golf in Schools program dates to back to September 2014, when along with his wife Ruby, donated $1 per twitter follower (@Fore_Kids) to Golf in Schools upon launching the Graham and Ruby DeLaet Foundation.

The Graham and Ruby DeLaet Foundation is focused on improving the health and wellness of children and supporting the development of junior golfers at all stages. More information on Graham and the Graham and Ruby DeLaet Foundation is available at www.grahamdelaet.com

Freedom 55 Financial signs lineup of rising Canadian athletes; Launches ‘#TeamFreedom’

London, Ontario, April 27, 2015… Freedom 55 Financial today announced the signing of six young Canadian athletes -- rising golf stars Albin Choi, Matt Hill, Taylor Pendrith and Adam Svensson, and track athletes Damian Warner and Jen Cotten. The six will join current Freedom 55 Financial golfer and brand ambassador Mackenzie Hughes on #TeamFreedom, a group of young Canadian athletes striving to reach the pinnacle of their athletic dreams.

“At Freedom 55 Financial, we’re dedicated to helping Canadians achieve their goals and dreams. It’s an honour to be a part of the journey each one of these young athletes is embarking on as they pursue their dreams,” said Mike Cunneen, Senior Vice-President, Freedom 55 Financial. “#TeamFreedom is about providing a supportive presence as these athletes pursue their aspirations.”

The addition of four professional golfers to #TeamFreedom further solidifies Freedom 55 Financial’s support of and commitment to golf in Canada, from grassroots to professional levels. Freedom 55 Financial supports grassroots development initiatives as sponsor of the Canadian Junior Golf Association’s Clinics for Kids program, for which #TeamFreedom golfers will serve as ambassadors. The company is also the lead sponsor of the TOUR Championship of Canada presented by Freedom 55 Financial in London, ON, PGA TOUR Canada's flagship event which sees five players graduate to the Web.com Tour each season.

In 2014, Freedom 55 Financial signed 24-year-old Mackenzie Hughes as its first brand ambassador after he captured PGA TOUR Canada’s order of merit in 2013 in his first year as a professional. A previous Freedom 55 Financial Canadian Player of the Year, Hughes will use this experience as he tees up on PGA TOUR Canada this season.

“The support I have received from the team at Freedom 55 Financial has been tremendous,” said Hughes. “It is great to see that they will be supporting several other Canadian athletes, as we all strive to achieve our dreams, and further establish Canada as a leading sports nation.”

Like Hughes, Choi, Hill, Pendrith and Svensson each have a unique story, defined by successful stepping stones, as they work toward their dream of playing on the PGA TOUR.

Choi recently won PGA TOUR Canada’s Florida Qualifying Tournament, gaining full status on PGA TOUR Canada this season. A winner of two NGA Tour events this past winter, the North Carolina State Alum is looking to carry that momentum forward when the PGA TOUR Canada season kicks off in Vancouver.

One of the highest-regarded amateur players to ever come out of Canada, Hill won eight tournaments in one season as a collegiate athlete, equalling Tiger Woods with the most individual wins in a single season. He is currently competing on the PGA TOUR Latinoamerica and will also play on PGA TOUR Canada this summer.

A Kent State grad, Pendrith was low amateur at the 2014 RBC Canadian Open finishing tied for 43rd. Known for his long-bombing drives, Pendrith will focus his efforts on PGA TOUR Canada in 2015.

After a standout collegiate career at Barry University, including 11 wins in his last 14 event starts and leading his team to two consecutive national championships, Svensson turned professional in March 2015. He recently won his second professional event, capturing his first two starts back-to-back on the SwingThought.com Tour. He will look to carry that winning momentum as he focuses his efforts on the Web.com Tour and PGA TOUR Canada this upcoming summer.

Off the golf course, track athletes Warner and Cotten are building on their past successes and training to represent Canada in international competitions.

Damian Warner, a Canadian decathlete, burst onto the athletics scene in 2011 when he won his first of three consecutive Canadian decathlon titles. Warner was then selected to represent Canada in the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, England, where his results ranked him second-best ever by a Canadian decathlete in Olympic competition. Most recently, he earned the gold medal in the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland.

After earning the University of Western Ontario Female Athlete of the Year award twice, Olympic hopeful Jen Cotten – a 400M Hurdler – is currently training to achieve her dream of standing atop the podium at the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janerio, Brazil.

To follow these young professionals on their journey, join the movement by using the hashtag “#TeamFreedom.”
